In January 2025, two of our newest UK Trustees, Ros Bird (Trustee Fundraising) and Lisa Philpott (Trustee & Board Secretary) visited our centre in Klok Kloi as part of their governance induction.

Lisa and Ros had a busy time during their brief visit.  The trip offered the duo the opportunity to gain an understanding of exactly where and how UK donations are making the most impact and the itinerary factored in time to support the operational team.

They had a fantastic day out with the mobile clinic, travelling to remote parts of Southern Thailand and seeing  how elephants are treated  in the field.  They also had a tour of the STEF Veterinary Hospital and met founding Trustee Jake, and the STEF Thailand team as well as getting to know some local supporters.

Ros and Lisa were also able to spend some time with visiting professional volunteers who were staying on site as part of our Volunteering Programme and took the opportunity to gather their feedback.

Of their visit, Lisa found conversations with volunteers very helpful, as it allows “STEF to shape and improve our volunteer programme going forward” and Ros added “for a fundraiser, a visit to witness our beneficiaries being treated is powerful insight and the information I was able to gather will be so useful for funding applications.”  Both agree that the trip was very exciting, thought provoking, and emotional with the added bonus of  getting up close to Asian elephants.
