Is to provide free veterinary care for elephants in Southern Thailand to improve their welfare and to protect their future. The Asian elephant is an endangered species, and it is our aim to support education on elephant welfare and conservation, as well as providing hands-on veterinary care.
Since our foundation at the end of 2017 (see our History) STEF has funded the construction, from scratch, of the first NGO elephant hospital in Southern Thailand. Known as the STEF Veterinary Centre, it is based at Khok Kloi, and serves the local elephant communities of the Phang Nga, Phuket. Krabi and Surat Thani Provinces.
The STEF Veterinary Centre currently employs two specialist vets and runs a mobile clinic which treats elephants throughout the Provinces of Southern Thailand. Our main focus for this year is to raise enough funds to continue supporting the running costs of the hospital and the mobile clinic. These costs include salaries for the veterinary staff, medical supplies, laboratory equipment and fuel for the mobile clinic. We also need to make further constructional improvements to the hospital site.
