Vet Appointed for the New Veterinary Centre at Khok Kloi

Dr Aon, the newly appointed vet at the STEF elephant veterinary centre

STEF is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Pattarawan Phumpanna – known as Dr Aon – as the veterinary officer at the new elephant veterinary centre at Khok Kloi, Southern Thailand, which is due to open later this year. Before the elephants arrive, Dr Aon, a keen wildlife conservationist (read more about Dr Aon), will have the chance to organise the interior of the office/clinic building at the centre, including the purchase of medical equipment, and she will also spend time with the team at the Krabi Elephant Hospital who kindly advised STEF on the construction of the STEF Veterinary Centre.

Before the clinic opens, Dr Aon is hoping to offer a mobile veterinary service for sick or injured elephants in the province.  These services will be provided free of charge to the local elephant community.  The photos below show Dr Aon examining elephants in Phang Nga.

Soon we hope to welcome many of our supporters to the veterinary centre, where our next plan is to build a visitor/educational centre for both local and overseas visitors to learn about the history, care and conservation of Thailand’s wonderful elephants, as well as seeing them roam freely in the grounds of the centre.
