Huge Funding Input to Feed Hungry Elephants

STEF and FOUR PAWS volunteers celebrate with elephant owners

STEF’s emergency appeal to feed hungry elephants has received a major boost from the international animal charity FOUR PAWS, which is providing £25,000, as well as human resources, to help our work in Southern Thailand.

This generous Rapid Response grant from FOUR PAWS will provide enough money to feed 100 elephants for a month, giving us the chance to help more owners on a regular basis at this critical time for elephants in Thailand.  FOUR PAWS’s volunteers will join forces with STEF on the ground to help with this important mission.

Since the Covid-19 lock down came into force and all the elephant parks closed, STEF has provided food for over 200 elephants in the southern provinces of Thailand, including the regular transport of truckloads of food by ferry to Koh Samui for the elephants based on the island. STEF is also raising funds through its JustGiving appeal and through generous private donations, but this extra support from FOUR PAWS will make a substantial difference to our ability to help more elephants in the region.

These elephants are often owned by poor mahouts with dependent families who now have no income to feed their animals –  and sometimes even their families – since the collapse of tourism.   The situation is unlikely to be resolved any time soon, so please help us to continue our work to provide for these hungry elephants.  Please consider making a DONATION
