STEF Trustee, Peter Laurie, appointed Chief Executive of Battersea

Peter Laurie in Thailand

Leading animal welfare charity Battersea announced today that Peter Laurie has been appointed Chief Executive with immediate effect.  Peter has been the Interim Chief Executive since January, following the departure of Claire Horton from the charity.

Peter has been a Trustee of STEF (see Trustees) since it was founded in 2017, and last year he oversaw our successful campaign to raise money to feed elephants that were starving due to the collapse of the tourist industry during the Covid-19 pandemic.  At the height of the pandemic, STEF raised over £40,000 and delivered over 700 truckloads of food to hungry elephants in Southern Thailand.

Well known and respected in the animal welfare sector, Peter initially joined Battersea in 2015 as Director of Operations and led the development of Battersea’s work to support animal rescue organisations across the UK and worldwide.  For further information about Battersea, see their website.

We congratulate Peter on his appointment.  Although it’s not possible to rehome an elephant, Peter is the proud owner of a Battersea greyhound, Wilson, who he rehomed in March last year.
