Dr Merry Smith
Dr Merry Smith MA VetMB PhD Cert ES DipECVS AECVDI MRCVS has always had a passion and love of elephants although her career in UK has been largely focused on horses. She completed her veterinary degree at Cambridge University in 1999, followed by specialist surgical training in the USA and at the University of Liverpool, gaining her European College of Veterinary Surgeons diploma in equine surgery in 2005. After her PhD at the Animal Health Trust, Merry was based at Newmarket Equine Hospital. Merry currently works as a freelance equine diagnostic imaging and surgery consultant, teaches, and has published scientific papers.
Merry is committed to animal welfare. She serves on the Farriers Registration Council and is a Trustee of World Horse Welfare, where she chairs the Veterinary Advisory Committee. She is also a Trustee of her village preschool.
Outside of work and voluntary commitments, Merry has a young family and cares for a menagerie of animals at their home in North Hertfordshire.
