Dr Fieke Molenaar

Dr Fieke Molenaar, MSc GPCertExAP DZooMed (mammalian), MRCVS, RCVS,  is a well-recognised specialist in zoo and wildlife medicine. She has been working with elephants in a professional capacity for over 12 years.

Originally from the Netherlands, Fieke has been working in the UK since 2002, completing her MSc in Wild Animal Health in 2005 and RCVS Diploma in Zoological Medicine in 2017. She has worked on several conservation and wildlife projects, and was Senior Veterinary Officer at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo from 2013-2022. She is an honorary lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College and has taught on elephant management and medicine at post-graduate level both at home and abroad.

Feike has published many peer-reviewed papers and is internationally recognised for her work on Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpes Virus (see News) and mycobacteriosis (TB). She has recently taken up the position of Lead Veterinary Surgeon in a bustling 5-vet small animal and exotic pet practice. She is a past President of the British Veterinary Zoological Society, is the current South-East representative on the Council of the British Veterinary Association, and is part of the ZEBRA Foundation, funding zoo and wildlife medicine research projects.
